Institute for Applied Economics and Social Value postgraduate and research study options

PhD level

The institute offers a vibrant and friendly research community for PhD students. Members of the Institute have a track record of publication in leading, internationally recognized journals and are eager to support and nurture PhD students. We also hold regular research seminars and workshops in which invited speakers or members of the Institute present their work. The support we provide in the institute complements the overall support of the Doctoral Training Programme provided within the Faculty of Business and Law.

We welcome applications in all areas of economics. We are also open to applications from people whose background is not in economics but who want to apply their knowledge to economic questions. This fits around the Institute’s objectives of pursuing cross-disciplinary research to address societal challengers.

Postgraduate taught courses

Members of the Institute are involved with teaching on a number of graduate level programs in Leicester Castle Business School. There are four masters programmes with a specific focus on applied economics:

MSc Business Economics and Business Finance

On this course, you will learn leading-edge economic theory and put that theory into practice by applying it to real-world problems. You will graduate with in-depth knowledge of economics and finance and be in the position of connecting the outcomes of such approaches to decision making within the broader context of national and international policy making.

MSc Business Economics and International Relations

The course offers diversity in the range of study, from international relations theory to regional integration. Through studying international relations alongside economics, you will develop a critical awareness of the role of economic policies in shaping global issues, and gain the skills to help shape organisational responses to changes in the business and organisational environment.
